Autumn Term 2024

Y5/6 Football Kids Cup - Monday 23rd September at Roefield 3G, Clitheroe

Team: Zaydene (C), Laura, Inaaya, Adbullah, Stanley, Zak, Sawdah,Zayn

Our first competition of the year with HRVSSP and our first competitive meet as a team. We played against Gisburn, followed by a tough match against Edisford and then St Joseph’s.  Unfortunately we lost all of these games, BUT Mrs Heyworth and coach Joe were thrilled to see that their passing and use of space had improved and there was some intelligent play happening.

We then had a couple of friendly matches against St Mary’s Osbaldeston, which was incredibly close and came down to the wire. They had a fantastic GK in action, but we had plenty of shots at goal. Zaydene and Zak each managed to get us on the score sheet. We also has a friendly game against SSMJ. Zak showed us how resilient and determined he was…. The coach for SSMJ kept shouting to his team that they needed to watch him!

The children at Balderstone once again showed their incredible sportsmanship - they never gave up or got disheartened, they congratulated the other teams on their wins and they were respectful to all involved. A great first outing, Coach Joe and Mrs Heyworth are looking forward to watching them progress over the year.

Y5/6 Girls'  Football - Wednesday 2nd October at  Roefield 3G, Clitheroe

Team: Inaaya, Juwairiyah, Zahraa, Sawdah, Laura,Maisie, Poppy S, Amaarah, Poppy B

Coach Joe and Mrs Gow had the pleasure of taking our junior girls to their first football tournament of the season. The team played incredibly well together, showing real determination and massive amounts of progress. Laura (star all-rounder) opened up the goal scoring in our 2-0 victory over St Mary's, Osbalderton. Then we were held to a 0-0 draw, in a tightly contested match against St Leonard's Langho. We found our winning streak again with a 2-1 win over St Joseph's with a rather unexpected goal from Juwairiyah's right knee! We were held to a 0-0 draw against Reed but finished with another victory. Inaaya, Poppy S, Amaarah and Zahraa played really strongly in defence and held their line beautifully. Poppy B deserves a special mention for keeping so many clean sheets and being a fierce goalie. She had put in some serious training throughout the week and it definitely paid off. Speedy Maisie on the right wing combined with Sawdah's immense power and Laura's skill mean we certainly have a team to watch out for in the coming season! Well played team. We had some superb mum cheerleaders too, so thank you for your driving and cheering (it made all the difference). Mrs Gow and Coach Joe are officially the loudest coaches in the whole of Ribble Valley. Mrs Gow will be providing a crib sheet of translations for Coach Joe's many Scouse dialect phrases which raised a few eyebrows from the opposition, such as:

"Put 'em under " does not mean kill them and bury them.... but simply put them under pressure!

Well done Coach Joe - we can see your impact already.

Y5/6 Cross Country  - Monday 7th October at SMSJ , Clitheroe

Girls Team: Laura ,Maisie, Sawdah, Poppy S, Poppy B, Juwaiiyah Inaaya,

Boys team: Stanley, Thomas B, Ralph, Danyal, Muhammad M

Fun Runners: Zahraa, Ameerah, Primrose

Always a tough event, but our children love the challenge and always perform with determination. EVERY child worked hard to ensure they completed the course.

29 teams participated in his event… with 12 children in each team…. Meaning there were approximately 350 competitive runners!

Our girls team finished in a respectable 9th position overall . Poppy S bought the team home , closely followed by Laura.

The boys team consisted of some of our new Year 3’s in a very large Y5/6 event. A special mention to these boys as  it can be quite daunting to run against some of the big Year 6 boys that are in the area.

We also had 3 girls who ran in the fun run - 2 form Year 4 and one from Year 3. They started after the main group yet still managed to finish aged of some of the competitive runners. Mrs Heyworth and Mrs Johnson form HRVSSP were so impressed with their determination and they were presented with certificates at the event in recognition of this.

A special Thank you to our former Coach Maisie, who had dropped into school to see us on her day off and got roped into coming along to help Mrs Heyworth. It was lovely to see her again… Thank you Maisie.

Y5/6 Netball League -Monday 14th October at Accrington Academy

Team: Laura (C), Maisie, Stanley, Sawdah, Eshaal, Liyaana, Aaisha, Poppy S, Amaarah,

Our first outing as a team this season and we have made a great start. With many new players, the season looks promising. Our first game against St Hubert finished in a 4 - 4 draw, with goals from Maisie and Laura.

Our next game was against St Leonards, a team who notoriously have many players from Ribble Valley Netball Club. Unfortunately this ended with a loss, but the determination of our players was admirable.

Our penultimate match against St Anne's and St Joseph's  finished with a 1-0 victory for ourselves. We ended the evening with a pleasing 5 - 3 win against Salesbury with goals from Sawdah and Laura. This leaves us in third position in the league at present, just behind Salesbury. Well done girls.

Y3/4 Football Tournament  - Thursday 31st October at Roefield 3G, Clitheroe

Team: Danyaal (C), Muhammad, Umar, Ameerah, Zahraa, Zayaan, Rayaan, Ralph, Abu-Bakr

Mrs Riddell and Mrs Heyworth took a very excited team to participate on a very Autumnal Halloween evening. This was the first time our team have played together and to say we were proud, is an understatement.

Our first game, against Salesbury resulted in a goalless draw, which we were extremely pleased about. Our 2nd and toughest game, which resulted in a loss was against Read.

In the third round, we saw an increase in confidence, self belief, team work and communication: The team, ably finished off by Danyaal and Muhammed, celebrated a victory of 4 - 0.

The next two games against Mellor and SMSJ both ended in 1- 1 draws.

We would like to say a special thank you to our wonderful parents who transported and stayed on to watch... another school noted and commented on how lovely it was for the children to have so many of you present. The Balderstone family truly is unique and wonderful - Thank you !

Y5/6 Football League - Monday 4th November  at Roefield 3G, Clitheroe

Report by Zaydene Pathan

Blasting Balderstoners entered the football tournament at Edisford. Our team was Zaydene (C), William, Zayn, Laura, Sawdah, Inaaya, Stanley and Muhammed from Y4.

After warming up with some basic stretches and taking shots against our fantastic keeper,  (Inaaya), it was time to make a start with the first of five matches which was against  Whalley. We had a bit of a strange start with this one, the opposition team started with 8 players and once the referee was made aware, a player was taken off. Our team played really well, some great passes and an excellent team effort. Unfortunately we lost 1-0 but we didn’t let this put us off.

Our next game was against  Waddington and West Bradford, our team closed them down and really tried to score, we were so close but unfortunately we conceded a goal. Final score was 1-0.

Our third match was against Barrow, we all played superbly and it was a fantastic team effort! We drew 0-0 in this game due to our great defensive work and with our formidable goalkeeper making some excellent saves, we were relieved and raring to go for the next one.

The fourth game was brilliant! We won this match 1-0! Muhammed from year 4 scored a fantastic goal after which we were brave on the ball and defended well. Amazing team effort and an even sweeter victory.

Final game was against Chatburn which we lost 2-0, they pressed us hard in our own half where we initially struggled to cope but we dug in deep and we defended our lines respectfully and gave a good account of ourselves.

Bearing in mind the team was made up of a year 4 some year5/6’s,  the tournament highlighted the amazing team bond, it was a fantastic experience and we are very proud of our performance. There are a lot of positives to take from this tournament. A huge congratulations to the team and a real team effort! Looking forward to the next one with more wins!

3/4 SportsHall Athletics - Tuesday 12th November at Oakhill

Team: Adah, Florence, Haniya, Amelia, Ameerah, Zahraa, Danyaal, Thomas B, Yakub, Abu Bakr, Ralph and Zayyan

12 children from Year 3 and 4 went to Oakhill to represent our school at the sports hall athletics competition. There were relays, throwing and jumping in every direction for the children to take part in! The team were fantastic! They ran, jumped and threw brilliantly and most of all worked as a team. The tactics talk for the relays was very serious! We’re very proud of our overall result, we came 7th out of 14 schools. Thank you to Mrs Barton for coming along, cheering and helping with our team talks. Thank you too for all the parents that helped transport the children. We couldn’t attend these events without your help, so thank you!

Y1/2 Kurling Competition - Thursday 12th December at St Augustine's.

Team: Aminah, Farrin, Amaarah, Rumaysa

Our Year 1/2 Kurling team certainly did us proud after school as they battled hard to win the BRONZE medals in this year's competition. Mrs Burton is a fiercely competitive coach who loves to keep us the school's winning kurling streak. Well done to the team and to all the parents who attended. Thank you Mrs Draycott, Mrs Burton and Coach Joe for spurring us on to another medal position.
